This is horrifying and unsurprising. I agree with the quote in the article that while there is nothing more deserving of our harshest punishment than the murder of a police officer, we should not be executing a man on whom serious shadows of doubt are cast on his guilt.
I think a criminal death penalty is an outrage in America. Not only is it morally repugnant, but it is administered in a way that continues to disproportionately execute minorities and the poor.
This is shameful, and we should abolish it for all but crimes against humanity.
