Softbank first to announce Iphone in Japan

Apple’s Iphone is coming to Japan, and no big surprise here. Softbank is the first to announce which is great news for them. It will be very interesting to learn whether others (DoCoMo) will also ship the Iphone. Stay tuned. My bet is that SB will have a brief exclusive, though I can’t imagine that DoCoMo will be on the sidelines for long here.

Japan’s consumer and mobile culture should make it a huge market for the Iphone. I’d expect the Iphone to be a massive hit there. In addition, the opportunities there around mobile Iphone-oriented apps should also be quite exciting, as the mobile lifestyle there is something very very well developed.

The earthquakes just keep on coming…

I’ve lived in Tokyo for 3+ years, and I’ve never felt anything like this!  We’ve had at least 3 big ’shakers’ where the whole apartment is shaking.  The dogs and I have been under my desk twice!

If you don’t hear from me tomorrow, check the news in Tokyo!  It may have fallen into the sea.  Geesh.  Good thing I’m flying to the US tomorrow.

I’ll say! They say there was ‘minor shaking’ in Tokyo.  That’s bogus–it was major shaking in my building.  My gosh, I was under my desk for about 5 minutes while the building wobbled back and forth!

Hello world indeed…

I have just started this blog as a new outlet for updating friends and family on what’s going on.

For those interested, I’m trying out WordPress versus the Windows Live Spaces.  I’ve got to say that at least for now, WordPress is ahead.  Stuff lays out very cleanly.  My Windows Live Space looks horrible, and it’s just a little bit tough to even now where to start for cleaning the darn thing up. 

I will say that I am using the Windows Live Writer beta to create this, and I have to say that so far it’s very nice.  Pretty intuitive, functional, etc. for a beta.  Recognized and pointed at WordPress in a snap.  I’ll like to see perf improve a bit, but overall pretty good.  The Windows Live guys should be proud of what they’ve done so well.
